When does GTA 6 pre-load start?
Pre-load opens at midnight local time on Thursday, November 12, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — one week before launch. Rockstar confirmed the date. Because it's local midnight, players in New Zealand and Australia can start first.
How much space do I need?
The standard edition is reported as a 210GB download on PS5 (PlayStation Store data, October 27, 2026). Rockstar hasn't published an official size. Keep about 250GB free to allow for a day-one patch.
How to pre-load on PS5
Pre-order the digital edition on the PlayStation Store. From November 12, open the game in your library and choose Download. Keep the console in Rest Mode with 'Stay connected to the internet' turned on so the download and any patch can finish.
How to pre-load on Xbox Series X|S
Pre-order the digital edition from the Microsoft Store. From November 12, the download starts automatically if automatic updates are on; otherwise find GTA VI in My games & apps under Ready to install.
Physical copies
Physical boxes contain a download code, not a disc. Retail copies ship from November 12, so redeem the code as soon as you have it to start the same download.
When can I play?
Pre-loading does not unlock the game early. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, reportedly at midnight local time based on PlayStation Store timestamps — Rockstar hasn't announced an exact unlock time.
